DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader to the Nova Southeastern Sharks 8-1 and 10-1 in five innings on Saturday at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
The Bucs (26-19, 8-7 SSC) fell behind early in both games and were unable to recover. Starters
Paula Mackin (11-8) and
Brianna Smith (10-5) took the losses, but reliever
Jessica Bevlin pitched well in both games, going a combined 7.1 innings in the two games. She allowed two unearned runs on five hits and three walks and struck out three.
In game one, the Bucs committed seven errors, leading to seven unearned runs.
Cassy Zamora tripled with one out in the sixth and scored the Bucs' only run on a ground ball by
Amanda Goelz.
In the second game, Goelz singled to lead off the fourth inning and scored one out later on a single by
Kayla Monroy.
The Bucs host the Lynn Fighting Knights on Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 13-14 at Buccaneer Field. Tuesday's single game starts at 6:00 pm with the Wednesday doubleheader set to begin at 5:00 pm. You can catch all the action on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
