MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers (4-0) swept a softball doubleheader from the Miles Bears 9-1 in five innings and 8-1 at Buccaneer Field on Saturday.
Amanda Goelz was four-for-four with a double and four runs scored in the doubleheader.
Brianna Smith (3-0) picked up the win in game one, while
Paula Mackin (1-0) came on in relief in game two to earn the win.
In game one, Smith went the complete game, striking out 11 and allowing only one run on one hit. She also went two-for-three at the plate, including a three-run triple in the fifth inning. She later scored the clinching run on a triple by
Cassy Zamora. Goelz, Zamora and
Grace Collins all went two-for-two in the game.
Heather Goolsby (0-1) took the loss for the Bears (0-2). She allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks.
In game two,
Jessica Bevlin got the start in the circle and worked three scoreless innings before reaching her pitch count. Mackin tossed the final four innings, allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
Kayla Bowmaster (0-1) took the loss despite working a complete game. She gave up eight runs on 13 hits.
