LAKELAND, Fla.—The 25th-ranked Barry University volleyball team lost their first conference match on Friday night, falling 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) to Florida Southern.

The first set was very closely contested as neither team was able to take more than a two point lead. The Bucs trailed 24-22 late in the set and went on to lose set number one 25-23.

The second set played out much like the first set in that neither team was able to establish a large lead. Late in the game the teams were tied 19-19 before Florida Southern went on a 6-0 run to take set two 25-19.

Like the first two sets, the teams were evenly matched throughout the majority of set three.  Up 17-15, the Bucs took a three point lead off a Julia Teixeira kill. However, that was as close as Barry would come as Florida Southern took  the final 10 points to take set three 25-18.

For the Buccaneers Teixeira had 15 kills while Lanie Muys and Ady Alcantara combined for 15.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow night when they take on Rollins at 4:00 pm in Winter Park. All the action can be heard live by visiting the Buccaneer athletic website and clicking on
