MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team (11-7, 2-1 SSC) swept a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader from Rollins by the scores of 5-4 and 6-3.
In game one of the set, the Buccaneers, down 4-2, rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs to take the game from the Tars. With two outs,
Evan Ashley drove the ball into centerfield allowing
Carlos Gomez to score what would turn out to be the winning run.
Andrew Koubek (2-0) earned the victory going seven solid innings, scattering six hits, four runs, one earned while fanning three.
Brian Milanes picked up his second save of the season striking out two in one inning of work.
For the Tars, Michael Prusak (0-1) took the loss with 2 2/3 innings of relief work, allowing three runs (one earned). Ryan Luker led Rollins offensively with two RBI.
In the night cap, Barry jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as
John Servidio drove in
Nick Shaw on a sacrifice fly to right field.
In the top of the fourth the advantage went back to the Tars as they scored two runs. A single by Mike Crane through the left side allowed Luker to advance to third from first which set up Ryan Maddern to single and drive in a run. In the following at-bat, Crane was driven in by Ben Hewett as the Tars took the 2-1 advantage.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Buccaneers responded with three runs and would hold on to take the contest 6-3.
Aaron Main (3-1) started game two, going 4 2/3 innings allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) to earn the win. Milanes picked his second save of the day pitching a flawless seventh inning, striking out two. Mike Tomoleoni came into the game in a setup situation keeping the Tars at bay to setup Milanes. Marc Hewitt (3-1) took the loss after giving up four runs in three innings of work.
Ashley and
Andrew Frezza led the Bucs with two RBI on the day. Frezza racked up three hits in eight at-bats as did Shaw. Collectively, the Buccaneers batted a solid .328 through both games.
The Buccaneers return to action on Thursday night when they play host to Wilmington at 6:00 pm.
