MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Amber Jack (So., Homestead, Fla.) tossed a complete game shutout and
Brittany Anderson (So., Chandler, Ariz.) drove in the game-winner to lead the Barry University softball team (30-10, 4-3 SSC) to a 3-0, 11-inning win over the Florida Tech Panthers (35-18, 10-3 SSC) on Saturday afternoon at Bottge Field.
In a battle of the Ambers, both teams engaged in an ole fashioned pitching dual to start the three-game conference series. Barry's
Amber Jack (18-6) hurled 11 complete innings and gave up five hits, while striking out six. Florida Tech's Amber West (13-9) allowed just four hits, allowed three unearned runs and struck out seven with one walk.
Neither team managed to get past second base until the 11
th inning when
Amanda Goelz (Fr., Palm Bay, Fla.) reached second on a two-base error by Panther centerfielder Danielle Stanley.
Holli Davis (Jr., Lake Havasu, Ariz.) laid down the sacrifice to move Goelz to third and then Jack reached on a fielder's choice.
With runners at the corners and two outs, Anderson hit a two-RBI double to right center to put the Bucs on top 2-0.
Shyla Rider (So., Woodbridge, Va.) sealed the 3-0 win with an RBI single to plate Anderson.
The Bucs managed four hits to Florida Tech's five.
The three-game conference series will conclude with a 1 pm double-header on Sunday, Apr. 1.
