Softball Takes Two From Lynn in League Play

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Amanda Goelz (Palm Bay, Fla.) went 7-for-8 with four RBI to lead the Barry University softball team (28-6, 2-3 SSC) to a pair of Sunshine State Conference victories over the Lynn University Fighting Knights at the McCusker Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers won the first game 6-1 and the nightcap 3-0 to extend their win streak to 15 games.

Goelz went a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game and homered in her last at bat in the seventh inning to lead the Bucs over Lynn (12-18, 3-6 SSC). Maile Keeney drove in Barry's first run with a two-out RBI double in the first that plated Shyla Rider to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Ashley Byrd tied the game in the second on a solo home run, but Rider scored the winning run on a defensive miscue by the Fighting Knights in the third. Goelz extended Barry's lead to two with an RBI single.

Ali Perantoni and Brittany Anderson recorded RBI hits in the sixth to give Barry a 5-1 lead. Goelz then capped off the Buccaneer win with a two-out solo home run in the seventh.
