BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Amanda Goelz (Palm Bay, Fla.) went 7-for-8 with four RBI to lead the Barry University softball team (28-6, 2-3 SSC) to a pair of Sunshine State Conference victories over the Lynn University Fighting Knights at the McCusker Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers won the first game 6-1 and the nightcap 3-0 to extend their win streak to 15 games.
Goelz went a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game and homered in her last at bat in the seventh inning to lead the Bucs over Lynn (12-18, 3-6 SSC).
Maile Keeney drove in Barry's first run with a two-out RBI double in the first that plated
Shyla Rider to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Ashley Byrd tied the game in the second on a solo home run, but Rider scored the winning run on a defensive miscue by the Fighting Knights in the third. Goelz extended Barry's lead to two with an RBI single.
Ali Perantoni and
Brittany Anderson recorded RBI hits in the sixth to give Barry a 5-1 lead. Goelz then capped off the Buccaneer win with a two-out solo home run in the seventh.
Goelz led the Buccaneer offense with four hits and two RBI, while Keeney and
Cristina DeTagle each recorded two hits.
Liz Bennett (11-1) recorded the win in seven innings giving up one run on three hits and struck out six. Byrd led Lynn with two hits and a home run, while Cristin Kelly (8-8) allowed six runs (four earned) on 11 hits and struck out three in the Fighting Knight loss.
In the nightcap, Goelz shined again, going 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Buccaneers. She drove in the Bucs' first run on an RBI single in the sixth to give Barry a 1-0 lead.
Sara Hipson and Goelz both recorded RBI singles in the seventh to cap off Barry's 3-0 win.
Amber Jack (16-5) tossed a two-hit shutout to earn the win for Barry, while striking out two. Candace Vanderveen recorded the only hits for Lynn, while Kara Henderson (4-10) gave up three runs on 10 hits and struck out two to suffer the loss.
Both teams will concluded the three-game series on Sunday with a 1 pm single game at the McCusker Complex.
