MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Riding a 10-game win streak, the Barry University softball team (24-8) soared past the Southern Connecticut State Owls 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Buccaneer Field.

 

The Bucs came out of the gate swinging with three runs in the first two innings. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, team RBI leader Amanda Goelz plated the first Buccaneer runs on a two run single up the middle. In the second, Ashley Loose's RBI producing in-field single scored Brittany Anderson from third to give Barry a 3-0 lead.

 

The Bucs then added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings on Holli Davis' RBI single and Loose's two-run double to claim a 6-0 lead.

 

Loose led Barry going three-for-three with three RBI, while Cristina DeTagle recorded two hits and four other Buccaneers collected one. Five players recorded one hit each for the Owls (6-3).

 

Amber Jack (14-5) captured the win for the Bucs, pitching a complete shut-out and striking out six while not walking a single batter. Southern's Jessica Dempsey (3-1) suffered her first loss of the season, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out three.

 

Barry next plays on Wednesday, Mar. 21 at 5:00 pm in a doubleheader against region opponent Palm Beach Atlantic at Buccaneer Field.
