Softball Wins Two on Second Day of Barry/Nova Invite

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University softball team (8-2) rallied after yesterday's split to win a pair of games in the Barry/Nova Invitational on Saturday at Buccaneer Field. The Bucs defeated  the Florida Tech Panthers 4-1 and the West Florida Argonauts 1-0.
 
In the first game versus Florida Tech (5-8), Ashley Loose started a two-out rally for the Buccaneers in the third inning with a single to right center. Amanda Goelz then hit an RBI double to right field to put the Bucs ahead, 1-0. In the top of the fifth inning with two on, Maile Keeney belted a three run home run to give Barry a 4-0 win.
 
Goelz led the Bucs with three hits while Loose, Keeney, Shyla Rider and Sara Hipson each recorded one. On the mound, Liz Bennet (3-1) pitched five innings for the win, striking out three and walking one. Florida Tech's Amber West (3-6) picked up the loss, giving up six hits and walking two batters.
 
In the second game against West Florida (6-1), the Buccaneers were held scoreless until the sixth inning when Goelz hit a solo home run to put Barry on the board for the go-ahead score. The first home run of her career, ended up being all the Bucs needed for the 1-0 win.
 
Goelz led the Buccaneers for the second straight game, going 2-for-3 while Casey Pyron added a hit. Amber Jack (5-0) picked up the win for Barry in the second game. She tossed four innings and struck out three. West Florida's Emily Burge (3-1) took the loss, throwing a complete game and striking out 11 batters. West Florida was held to only one hit.
 
The Buccaneers conclude play in the Barry/Nova Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Buccaneer field against Valdosta State at 12:00 pm and Lynn at 6:00 pm.
