MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers took advantage of six errors to score six unearned runs and defeat Florida Gulf Coast 6-3 in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.
The Bucs (26-12-1) got started in the first inning.
Andrew Frezza came around to score when Eagle rightfielder Geoff Rottmayer dropped a fly ball off the bat of
Orestes Gonzalez.
The Eagles (27-8) tied it up at 1-1 on an RBI double by Ian Manson in the third inning.
But in the bottom of the third, Barry pushed across four runs on three hits and three Eagle errors.
Alex Meneses led off with a single, and went to second when Casey Coleman mishandled a fielder's choice by
Jerry Thornton. Frezza bunted the runners to second and third, but Eagle starter Justin Stiver over threw first base, bringing Meneses and Thornton in and sending Frezza all the way to third. Frezza scored on a single by Gonzalez, who scored after a single by
Nick Corbeil and another error by Rottmayer.
In the fourth, Meneses reached on a bunt single and later scored on a passed ball by catcher Graig Smith.
Manson inched the Eagles closer with a leadoff homer in the eighth inning and an RBI-single in the ninth to account for all three FGCU runs.
Stiver (5-3) took the loss, giving up six unearned runs on four hits and three walks, striking out five.
Jayson Brown (5-3) picked up his fifth win at home, going eight innings, scattering 11 hits and two walks, striking out six. He allowed two runs.
The teams finish their three-game series on Saturday, Apr. 8 at 1:00 pm with a doubleheader.
