Baseball Blasts Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Barry Buccaneers defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 12-5 at PBCC Baseball Field on Tuesday night.

The Bucs (31-17-1) jumped out in front in the first inning. Alex Meneses led off with a double and scored on a single by Andrew Frezza.

Barry increased its lead in the third inning. Bobby Hartney and Meneses opened the frame with singles and scored on sacrifice flies by Frezza and Nick Corbeil.

The Sailfish (12-37) plated five runs in the fourth to go up 5-3. Tristan Miceli and Kris Wellmaker hadRBI singles and Raybo Lisle knocked in two with a double off Buccaneer starter Bobby Riley.

But the Bucs responded with three runs in each of the next three innings for the win. Corbeil belted his team-leading 14th homer of the season, a three-run home run in the fifth inning which gave the Bucs a 6-5 lead. In the sixth, Meneses and Corbeil had RBI singles, while Hartney scored on a wild pitch. Frezza keyed a three-run seventh inning with a two-run single.

Barry pounded out 16 hits, included three each by Hartney, Meneses and Frezza. Frezza drove in four runs and Corbeil drove in five.

Bobby Hernandez (4-0) retired all ten men he faced, seven by strike out, to earn the win for the Buccaneers. Mike Doneth (1-5) was victimized for three runs on five hits in his one inning of work including Corbeil's home run.

The Bucs travel to Saint Leo this weekend for a three-game set against the Lions beginning with a single game Friday night at 7:00 pm and the doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
