MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University softball team (34-8) split a NCAA south regional double header with Florida Gulf Coast (53-5) at Buccaneer Field on Monday evening. The Bucs opened up the evening with a 1-0 victory but faltered in the night cap against the Eagles, 3-1.
   
  In game one the Buccaneers were only able to muster three hits off of Eagles starter Rachael Edinger (22-3), but that proved to be enough for the game one win. In the bottom of the third inning with two outs, 
Shyla Rider blasted a solo home run over the right field wall that proved to be the game winner. 
Ramie Garcia (15-3) picked up the win scattering five hits over seven innings while striking out six. 
    
  Florida Gulf Coast averted the double header sweep in game two with the 3-1 win. The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Hilary Johnson drove in Rachel Homan with a one out single. Roz Tyre added the second run of the contest with a RBI single.
   
  The Buccaneer responded in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly RBI by 
Kim Fujimoto to drive in Rider. The Eagles pitching staff silenced the Buccaneer offense after that with Sarah Backe (11-0) and Rachael Edinger combining in limiting Barry to six hits. 
    
  Edinger picked up the win going 3.1 innings allowing two hits no runs and three strike outs. 
Amber Jack (11-4) took the loss going four innings giving up eight hits, three runs (three earned) with three strike outs. 
    
  The Buccaneers will be back in action this weekend when the play host to Saint Leo in a Sunshine State Conference series beginning on Friday at 7:00 pm.
