ALBANY, Ga. --
Ashley Loose (Jr., Mill Creek, Wash.) hit her first career home run for a grand slam and collected six RBI to lead the Barry University softball team (15-4) to a double-header sweep over the Albany State Golden Rams (12-8) on Tuesday. The Buccaneers won the first game in six innings 8-0 and the nightcap 5-2.
The Buccaneers erupted early with a five-run second inning. With runners at the corners,
Amber Jack (Fr., Homestead, Fla.) drove in the Bucs' first run with an RBI fielder's choice.
Katie Arnone (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) then reached on a Ram error and
Cristina DeTagle (So., North Miami Beach, Fla.) singled to load the bases for Loose. With two outs, she belted her first career home run to centerfield to give Barry the early 5-0 lead.
Holli Davis (So., Lake Havasu, Ariz.) led off the next inning for Barry with a single and scored on a wild pitch, while
Shyla Rider (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.) homered in the fourth to extend the Bucs' lead to 7-0. In the sixth, Loose drove in her fifth run of the day with a ground-out RBI that plated DeTagle for the win by NCAA run-rule 8-0 after six innings.

Ramie Garcia (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) retired the first 10 batters she faced en route to the shutout. She improved to 5-2 on the season after giving up five hits and striking out nine. Albany State's Chasity Dean (6-5) gave up eight runs (four earned), walked two, and struck out three in the loss.
The Buccaneers scattered nine hits over seven innings in the nightcap to complete the series sweep. Rider led off the first inning with a double and later scored on a wild pitch to start the scoring for Barry.
Maile Keeney (Jr., Longwood, Fla.) drove in the Bucs' second run with an RBI single.
Jackie Godwin (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) owned the second inning with a leading off with a single and later stole home to extend the Bucs' lead, 3-0.
Tiffany Peterson accounted for the Rams' first run of the series in the bottom half of the second with an RBI single that plated Jenniqua Moses. The Rams cut even further into the Bucs' lead in the bottom of the sixth scoring once, but the Buccaneers tacked on two more runs in the seventh to secure the 5-2 win.
Liz Bennett (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) took the first four innings and allowed one run on three hits, walked two, and struck out five to improve to 5-0. Jack took control in the fifth and went the final three, gave up a run on two hits and struck out four with walk to earn her second save of the year. Demetria Harris (6-3) gave up five runs on eight hits, and walked three in the loss for Albany State.
Both Loose and Rider went 4-for-7 with a home run apiece to lead the Bucs at the plate. Loosed added six RBI and also stole three bases. Vernice Grahma led the Rams with three hits, including one double.
The Buccaneers will have a day off before they pick up on the tail end of their spring break trip. They are schedule to play Fort Valley State on Thursday, Mar. 9 at 2 pm.
