Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Sailfish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers split a doubleheader with the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, dropping game one 7-6 but taking the nightcap 4-3 at Feinbloom Field on Saturday.
 
In the first  game, the Bucs (9-6) led 5-1 heading into the seventh inning. But the Sailfish (4-16) scored six runs over the last three innings to take the game.
 
David Bernat (0-1) entered the game with a 6-5 lead in the ninth, but surrendered two runs on three hits to take the loss. Rob Neigabauer (2-4) worked eight innings to earn the win for PBA. He allowed six runs ( three earned on eight hits and two walks, striking out four.
 
Scott Jarmakowicz loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but induced a game-ending double play with the bases loaded out of Brian Martinez to secure his first save.
 
In the nightcap, Glenn Zavitz and Joel Gossett locked up in a scoreless pitcher's duel. Neither team socred until the bottom of the sixth inning when Andrew Frezza and Jesse Naber hit back-to-back doubles to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh, however, the Sailfish got a three-run homer from Jarmakowicz off Zavitz to go up 3-1. Then in the bottom of the inning, the Bucs loaded the bases with one out off Gossett. Brett Rossi tied it up with a two-run single. The Sailfish brought Jarmakowicz in to face Cesar Aranguren and the Buccaneer third baseman stroked a game-winning single to plate Alex Meneses.
 
Ray Rhoads (3-0), who got the last two outs in the top of the seventh got the win. Zavitz went 6.1 innings, allowing just the three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out three. Gossett (1-4) took the loss. He went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
 
The Buccaneers continue their homestand with a game against the University of Philadelphia Rams on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
