Softball Propelled by Maile Keeney Grand Slam

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Junior Malie Keeney blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning to propel the Buccaneers (24-6, 8-2 SSC) to 5-2 Sunshine State Conference victory over Florida Tech (22-9, 9-4 SSC) at Buccaneer Field.

Barry scored four runs in the third inning after Shyla Rider, Kim Fujimoto and Ashley Loose loaded the bases for Keeney. The Bucs added a security run in the fifth when Fujitomoto reached safely on a fielder's choice that drove in Cristina DeTagle for the fifth Buccaneer run.

Ramie Garcia (10-3) pitched five solid innings allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four to pick up her tenth victory on the season. Amber Jack came in relief and pitched two innings of shutout ball to secure the win and earn her third save.

Amber West (14-7) took the loss for the Panthers, allowing six hits and five runs (all earned) in six innings pitched. She struck out five.

The Buccaneers will conclude the three-game series against the Panthers tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 pm at Buccaneer Field.
