Baseball Ties Harvard

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers and the Harvard Crimson played to a 6-6 tie in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Monday night.

The game started 1:03 late when the Crimson arrived late from their earlier game with Lynn University.

The Crimson (3-7-1) got on the board in the first inning off Barry starter Mike Tomoleoni. Steffan Wilson drove in Harry Douglas, who had walked, with a sacrifice fly and Josh Klimkiewicz knocked in Matt Vance with a single. Tomoleoni had to come out after facing Klimkiewicz with an apparent injury. Mike Davila came on to toss 5.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The Bucs (21-11-1) tied the game in the second inning. Nick Corbeil and Brett Rossi walked and Gabriel Cassanova ripped an RBI double to plate Corbeil. After Alex Meneses walked to load the bases off Crimson starter Ryan Watson, Jerry Thornton drew a pass to score Rossi.

The Bucs went up 4-3 in the third inning when Orestes Gonzalez and Corbiel hit back-to-back solo homers. They added another run in the fourth when Thorneton squeezed in Bobby Hartney.

The Crimson came back to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning. Matt Vance singled and Lance Salsgiver doubled. Vance came in to score on a groundout by Wilson and Klimkiewicz ripped a double to score Salsgiver.

Harvard took a 6-5 lead in the seventh. Vance singled and stole second and Salsgiver followed with an infield single to put runners on the corner. Salsgiver swiped second and Buccaneer second baseman Casanova misplayed the throw to allow Vance to score from third.

The Bucs got the equalizer in the eighth inning. Gonzalez singled and was replaced by Frank Lorenzo who promptly swiped second. Brett Rossi hit a ball into the hole at short and Lorenzo, running hard, scored from second to knot the game.

From that point, the relief pitching took over. Salsgiver moved in from right field to pitch for the Crimson, holding the Bucs to just one hit and two walks over 3.1 innings, with one strikeout. David Bernat pitched 4.2 innings for Barry, holding Harvard to one hit and striking out eight.

Gonzalez and Corbeil each had two hits for Barry, while Vance and Salsgiver each recorded four hits for Harvard. Thornton drove in two for the Bucs without a hit, while Wilson had three RBI for Harvard without registering a safety.

The Bucs will face Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, Mar. 29 at 6:00 pm in the friendly confines.
