Softball Sweeps Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers swept a softball doubleheader from the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Howard Park Tuesday night, winning both games in only five innings. The Bucs took game one 8-0 and the nightcap 13-0.
 
The Bucs (23-6) completely dominated the first game, rapping out 14 hits to score eight runs and striking out 13 Sailfish (6-27) batters in five innings.
 
Ashley Loose went three-for-four with three runs, while Maile Keeney hit a double and a home run to drive in four. Kim Fujimoto also had two hits, while Amber Jack had three singles.
 
Ramie Garcia (9-3) allowed just one hit over three innings, striking out eight to pick up the win. Amber Jack tossed two scoreless inning with five strikeouts, as the Bucs recorded 13 of the 15 outs at the plate and every PBA batter had at least one strikeout.
 
Michelle Scales (3-10) took the loss in the first game. She allowed eight runs (five earned) on 14 hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Casey Gibson had the only hit for the Sailfish.
 
In the second game, the Bucs struck early and often. Brittany Anderson had an RBI double in the first and Maile Keeney capped a six-run second inning with her second three-run homer of the day to make it 8-0.
 
Ashley Loose capped a four-run fifth inning with a three-run homer of her own.
 
Liz Bennett (7-0) went the distance for the win for Barry. She allowed two hits and struck out six. Casey Hayden (1-7) took the loss for the Sailfish. She pitched five innings, allowing 13 runs (12 earned) on 11 hits and two walks. She struck out two.
 
After Gibson started the game with a leadoff single and was caught stealing, Bennett set down 11 batters down in a row until Carmen Davis had a bunt single in the fifth. Bennett faced only one over the minimum.
 
The Buccaneers will host Florida Tech on Monday, Feb. 27 in their first home game since Feb. 19.
