WINTER PARK, Fla. --
Ramie Garcia (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) hurled her fifth complete game shutout of the season to lead the Barry University softball team (21-4, 7-0 SSC) to a 1-0 Sunshine State Conference win over the Rollins Tars (25-4, 5-2 SSC) at Lake Island Park on Friday night.
Barry jumped out in front early with a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Maile Keeney (Jr., Longwood, Fla.) hit an RBI single to right center to plate
Ashley Loose (Jr., Mill Creek, Wash.) for the go ahead score.
Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Rollins' Devon Kontos broke up Garcia's no-hitter with a single to left field with two outs. The Tars managed to load the bases before Garcia managed to get out of the inning forcing Stacy Sanders to pop out to second base.
Garcia (8-2) allowed just two hits, walked three, and struck out six to earned the win for Barry. Nicole Anderson (13-4) allowed a run, on four hits, and struck out six in the loss for Rollins.
Shyla Rider (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.) went two-for-three at the plate with a pair of singles to lead the Buccaneers at the plate. Keeney,
Katie Arnone (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.), and
Cristina DeTagle also added single hits.
Both teams will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 18 for a 1 pm doubleheader to complete the league series.
