MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Jayson Brown tossed seven shutout innings, striking out 11 and Orestes Gonzalez went three-for-three with a two-run homer as the Buccaneers slugged the Nova Southeastern Sharks 8-0 in Sunshine State Conference baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.

 

Brown (3-2), who set a school-record with 15 strikeouts against Palm Beach Atlantic in his last outing, continued to rack up the strikeouts against the Sharks (13-6, 0-1 SSC). He gave up five hits and did not walk a batter.

 

The game was a pitcher's duel until Gonzalez unloaded on a fastball from NSU starter Ruddy Garcia (2-1) in the fourth inning for his second homer of the season to give the Bucs (14-6, 1-0 SSC) a 2-0 lead.

 

The Bucs blew the game open in the seventh inning, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring six runs. Jerry Thornton, Andrew Frezza and Nick Corbiel had RBI singles and Gonzalez added a run-scoring double.

 

The team conclude their three-game series on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 1:00 pm.
