MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to trounce the Florida Tech Panthers 11-5 in non-conference baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night.

 

Andrew Frezza belted a three-run homer to cap a five-run seventh inning that propelled the Bucs (2-3) to their second straight victory.

 

The Panthers (2-2) jumped out in front early off Barry starter Mike Davila. The first three batters all reached based and scored in the first inning, including a two-run single by Jonathan Baksh.

 

But Davila settled down to pitch five innings, allowing only one more unearned run and the Bucs began to chip away at the lead. In the bottom of the third, Frank Lorenzo blasted a lead off home run to make it 4-1. In the fourth, Gabriel Casanova ripped a two-run single to score Brian Martinez and Frezza.

 

After the Panthers added a run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-3, the Bucs exploded for a five run frame in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Jerry Thornton singled through the right side and Alex Meneses followed with an identical shot. Cesar Aranguren drove in Thornton with a single and Martinez followed with an RBI double to plate Meneses. Frezza capped the inning with his first career homer.

 

Barry added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Lorenzo singled, stole second and third and scored on a hit by Meneses. Thornton scored on a balk by Panther reliever Matt Woods and Aranguren drove in Meneses with a single to right.

 

Ray Rhoads (2-0) pitched two innings in relief of Davila, allowing just three hits and no runs. Jody Danca (0-1) took the loss for Florida Tech, going 1.1 innings in relief of starter Jay Crouse. He allowed four runs on four hits, struck out three but did not walk a batter.  David Bernat closed out the win for the Bucs, striking out three of the four batters he faced.

 

The Bucs are off until Wednesday, Feb. 15 when they will travel back to Ft. Myers, Fla., to face the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at 7:00 pm.
