MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers walloped the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals 21-1 at Feinbloom Field in baseball action Monday night.
After leading just 1-0 after three innings on an
Orestes Gonzalez homer, the Bucs exploded for 16 runs in the middle innings. The Bucs sent 12 men to the plate in the fourth scoring seven runs.
Brian Martinez keyed the inning with a two-run single. In the sixth with the Bucs up 11-1, Cardinal pitcher Daniel Brosnan came inand walked five of the seven men he faced, allowing Barry to increase its lead to 17-1.
Bobby Riley (1-0) tossed five shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out four. Jordan Fry (0-1) took the loss for the Cardinals. In 3.2 innings, he allowed eight runs (two earned) on 10 hits and two walks with two strike outs.
The Bucs will face off against Mercyhurst on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at 6:00 pm.
