MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers had their five-game winning streak stopped by Mercyhurst 6-3 at Feinbloom Field Wednesday night.
The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, thanks to an RBI double by Matt Echan in the third and run-scoring singles from Wally Wieczorek and Brian Zacour in the fourth.
The Bucs trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. The Bucs loaded the bases with one out and
Orestes Gonzalez drove in one with an infield single and
Bobby Hartney got an RBI with a ground out.
But the Lakers responded with a Echan homer in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to push the lead out to 6-2.
Andrew Frezza tripled and scored in the eighth inning to make the final 6-3.
Mike Davila (1-2) took the loss for the bucs, allowing four runs on six hits in six innings with seven strikeouts. John Mang (1-0) scattered eight hits in seven innings with two walks and four strikeouts to pick up the win for Mercyhurst. John Morris came in to retire
Cesar Aranguren and
Brian Martinez for his first save.
The Bucs continue their homestand with a three-game set against Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 3-4. Friday's single game starts at 6:00 pm, while Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 pm.
