Softball Takes Two of Three In First Day Of Charger Chillout

DECATUR, Ala.--The Barry Buccaneers saw their seven-game win streak end, but started another with a pair of wins at the UAH Charger Chillout at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Ala. The Bucs lost to North Alabama, but defeated West Georgia and Delta State.

In the first game, the Bucs' bats started out as chilly as the weather as they lost their first game of the season 7-3 to the North Alabama Lions (5-1). Shyla Rider was the lone bright spot, going three-for-four with a home run. It was the first of her career and the first of the season for Barry (9-1).

Ramie Garcia (3-1) took the loss for Barry. She allowed four runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out two in 3.2 innings. Stephanie Glienke (3-0) got the win for the Lions. She pitched a complete game, giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks. She struck out four.

Against West Georgia (3-6), Rider belted a lead off homer and Amber Jack tossed a two-hit shutout as the Bucs won 5-0. Holli Davis and Katie Arnone each had two hits as did Rider. Jack (3-0) threw her third straight shutout, extending her scoreless inning streak to 30. She walked one and struck out six.

In the night cap, the Bucs struck early and often, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings as they conquered the Delta State Statesmen 8-2.

Maile Keeney blasted a two-run first inning homer and Rider added a two-run double in the second. Liz Bennett (3-0) went the distance to earn the win. She allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and four walks, striking out five.

Britni Adcox (3-2) took the loss for Delta State (8-5). She surrendered six runs on five hits and a walk in an inning and a third. Jenna Smart went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, three walks with two strike outs.

The tournament continues on Saturday, with the Bucs facing the West Florida Argonauts at 10:00 am and the host Chargers at noon.
