ORLANDO –
Glenn Zavitz tossed two-hit ball over seven innings to lead the Barry Bucccaneers to a 7-1 win over the Bryant Bulldogs at Alfond Stadium on Saturday night.
The Bucs (4-4) completed the two-game sweep of the Bulldogs (0-7) thanks to a masterful pitching performance from Zavitz (1-1). He went seven innings, the longest out for a Barry starter this season, allowing just an unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out seven.
Bryant got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when Daryle Crowley scored on an error.
But the Bucs got the run back in the fourth, as
Brian Martinez, who had singled, scored from second after a failed pick off attempt by Bulldog starter Dan Lozeau (0-1).
Aranguren knocked in Thornton in the seventh with a base hit, while Martinez hadan RBI single and
Gabriel Casanova a sacrifice fly in a two-run ninth.
Lozeau took the loss for the Bulldogs, who are still looking for their first win. He went five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts.
Aranguren had three singles to lead the Bucs, while Thornton, Martinez, Casanova and Lorenzo each had two as neither team registered an extra-base hit.
The Bucs return to Feinbloom Field on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 21-22 to host the Mercy College Flyers in a pair of games.
