FT. MYERS, Fla.--
Bobby Hartney homered, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Barry Buccaneers to an 8-2 win over the Bryant Bulldogs Friday night at Florida Gulf Coast's Swanson Stadium.
Gabriel Casanova got the Bucs (3-4) on the board in the second inning with his first homer of the year.
Hartney hit his homer, his second this season, leading off the third inning as the Bucs scored three more.
Brian Martinez drove in
Jerry Thornton, who had been hit by a pitch and stole second, with a ground out and
Alex Meneses scored on an error to make it 4-0 Barry.
In the fifth, the Bulldogs (0-5) trimmed the lead in half on Mike Rocco's two-run double.
The Bucs broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hartney belted a two-run double of his own, scoring
Nick Corbeil and
Frank Lorenzo.
Orestes Gonzalez scored on an error and Hartney eventually came around on a passed ball.
Hartney added a single to go three-for-four on the night, while Corbeil and Cassanova each had a pair of hits.
Mike Tomoleoni (1-0) tossed five innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out eight to earn the win for the Buccaneers. Luke Cowan (0-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs. He went five innings, gave up eight runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk, striking out one.
The Bucs and Bulldogs will face off again on Saturday at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium in Winter Park, Fla.
