Baseball Sweeps Panthers For First Conference Series Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers swept a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader from the Florida Tech Panthers 10-9 and 8-3 at Feinbloom Field on Saturday.

In game one, the Buccaneers (28-20, 7-11 SSC) built a 4-0 in the second inning on a bunt RBI single by David San Juan and a three-run homer by Bobby Hartney. But the Panthers (27-22, 9-12 came back to build a 9-5 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the sixth, Cesar Aranguren drove in Hartney with an infield single and Fausto Faraldo delivered a two-run double to trim the lead to 9-8. The Bucs tied the game in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brian Lima and Jerry Thornton completed the comeback with a triple in the 10th inning to score Alex Meneses with the game winner.

Jesse Naber (1-2) tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out two. Matthew Van Fleet (4-4) took the loss for the Panthers, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Game two was a different story as the Bucs jumped out in front early and never looked back. Ricky Sanchez delivered a two-run single in the first inning, scoring Faraldo and Aranguren for a 2-0 lead.

The Bucs broke open the game with a four-run fifth inning. With Faraldo and Sanchez on base, Lima blasted a three-run homer and Meneses added an RBI double to score Hartney.

Mike Tomoleoni (5-0) worked into the seventh inning to earn the win for Barry. He went 6.1 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out three.

Jeff Koehler (2-2), making his first start, took the loss for the Panthers. He worked four innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks. He struck out two.

Lima had a double, triple and homer in the second game, driving in four to lead the Bucs. He missed hitting for the cycle by a single and had five hits in the doubleheader. Sanchez also had five hits, while Hartney had four.

The Bucs will travel to Lynn on Tuesday, April 26 to face the Knights in a non-conference game at 3:00 pm.
