MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers spotted the Nova Southeastern Knights an eight-run lead in the first inning, but came back to win 10-9 in non-conference baseball action at Feinbloom Field Tuesday night.
The Knights (24-15) sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Jeff Rodriguez hit a two-run homer and Greg Burrows added a bases-loaded triple in the frame.
The Bucs (24-17) crept to within one run with a seven-run second inning of their own.
Nick Corbeil and
Alex Meneses each had two-run doubles.
Fausto Faraldo put the Bucs up 9-8 with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, but the Knights came back to tie the game in the fifth. Rodriguez walked and scored on a single by Alex Froloff.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Bobby Hartney slapped a single into right field to score
Brian Lima, who had led off with a base hit, with the eventual winning run.
Glenn Zavitz (3-0) tossed seven inning of two-hit relief, giving up one run. He walked two and struck out six.
Reliever Joe Franco (0-1) took the loss for the Knights, giving up three runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.
The Bucs travels to Florida Gulf Coast this weekend to face the Eagles in a three-game set.
