WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Rollins College Tars beat the Barry Buccaneers 3-1 in the first game of a Sunshine State Conference baseball series at Rollins' Alfond Stadium on Friday night.

The Bucs grabbed the early lead in the third inning as David San Juan reached on a error and scored later on another.

Chris Munoz put the Tars in front with a two-run, his ninth of the season, in the fifth and Gene Howard drove in an insurance run in the sixth with a single.

Tars' starter David Nathanson (7-1) worked seven innings, holding the Bucs to one unearned run on two hits and four walks while striking out six. Jon Wano pitched the final two innings to earn his second save. He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out three.

Alex Gonzalez (5-2) took the loss for the Bucs, pitching his third-straight complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with nine strikeouts.

The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 pm to complete the series.
