Softball Falls To Argonauts

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Barry University softball team (12-8) fell in both ends of a non-conference double-header against the host West Florida Argonauts (19-1) earlier today at the UWF Sports Complex. The Buccaneers lost the first game 3-0 and the nightcap 3-1.

In the opening game, the Argonauts scored two runs and added another in the fifth and allowed Barry just three hits over seven innings in the 3-0 win. Elizabeth Bennett (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) suffered the loss for the Buccaneers giving up three runs on five hits and struck out six to fall to 8-5 on the year. West Florida's Amber Browning (11-1) struck out 11 and allowed three hits to pick up the win.

In the nightcap, Barry jumped out in front early in the first inning when Holli Davis (Fr., Lake Havasu, Ariz.) drove in Ashley Loose (So., Mill Creek, Wash.) on an RBI single. The Buccaneers managed to scatter four more hits over the seven-inning affair, but the Argonauts scored once in the third, fifth and sixth innings on seven hits in the 3-1 win. Ramie Garcia (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) suffered the loss giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits, while also striking out six to fall to 4-3. Browning entered the game in relief and picked up the win to improve to 12-1 on the year and struck out six over 3.2 innings of work.

Barry's Kim Fujimoto and Davis each scatter two hits over the two games to lead Barry at the plate, while Davis added an RBI. West Florida's Alex Tice led the Argonauts with four hits in the double-header, while Lindsay Warrenfeltz collected two hits and two RBI.

The Buccaneers will be back in action on Monday, Mar. 7 facing the West Alabama Tigers in Livingston, Ala. The game is slated for a 5 pm EST start.
