DAVIE, Fla.--The Nova Southeastern baseball team (20-8, 5-2 SSC) knocked off visiting No. 17 Barry University (17-9, 1-3 SSC) 10-2 in the first of a three-game Sunshine State Conference series at the NSU Baseball Complex.
After the two teams scored a run each in the first inning, NSU took the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Greg Burrows drove a 1-2 pitch from Bucs' starer
Jayson Brown (3-2) over the right field fence for a three-run homer and a 4-1 NSU advantage.
NSU starting RHP Kyle Ruwe (5-3) allowed nine hits and two runs while striking out nine for his sixth complete-game effort of the season. Brown took the loss for the Bucs, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Cesar Aranguren kept his 32-game hitting streak alive with a bad-hop single in the eighth inning. He is three games from tying Allen Dina's SSC record of 35 straight set in 1998.
The two sides will continue their three-game series tomorrow at the NSU Baseball Complex with a doubleheader slated for 1:00 p.m.
