MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers pounded out 10 hits to overcome four errors as they defeated the Florida Tech Panthers 5-4 at Feinbloom Field Friday night.
The Bucs (2-0) scored single runs in the first four innings and added one more in the seventh.
Fausto Faraldo drove in
Alex Meneses in the first inning with a single. In the second inning,
Alex Brizuela doubled in
Nick Corbeil who had walked.
The Panthers (1-2) tied the game in the third inning on a error by Corbeil and an RBI ground out by Bubba DiFabio. But the Bucs reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning when
Brian Lima scored ahead of a bases-loaded walk by
Jerry Thornton. Alex Menenes drove in Brizuela with a single in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 4-2 and Thornton capped the Bucs scoring with a sacrifice fly to score
Cesar Aranguren in the seventh.
The Panthers got single runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Devin Hopkins scored in the eighth on an error by Lima and pinch hitter Will Lanier singled in the ninth to drive in Brendan Twomey. But Mike Davila struck out Hopkins with the tying run on base to record his first save.
Jayson Brown (1-0) got the win for the Bucs working three innings in the split game, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks while striking out four.
Ray Rhoads tossed four scoreless innings in his college debut, allowing one walk, but no hits, and striking out three.
Mike McFadden (0-1) took the loss for Florida Tech, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and five walks with two strikeouts in four innings. Matt VanFleet tossed the final four innings, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out three.
The Bucs host Tusculum at noon and Lynn at 6:00 pm on Saturday.
