MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—
Ricky Sanchez hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the Barry Buccaneers to a 12-8 win over the Mercyhurst Lakers in baseball action from Feinbloom Field Monday night.
The Lakers (1-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third inning off Buccaneer starter
Greg Dicso. Devin Kowalski belted a grand slam homer to put the Lakers up 5-0 and they tacked on two more runs on Buccaneer errors in the inning.
With Barry trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bucs (13-5) started a comeback.
Cesar Aranguren knocked his third homer in the last two games leading off the inning.
In the fifth inning,
Brian Lima plated
Bobby Hartney and
Alex Meneses to trim the lead to 8-4. Barry tied the game in the sixth inning.
Fausto Faraldo doubled to lead off the inning and came around on a triple by Sanchez.
Nick Corbeil followed with his third home run of the season to cut the lead to one run, 8-7. Hartney then doubled off starter Adam Nine and came around to score the tying run on back-to-back balks by reliever Mike Cahoon (0-1).
In the seventh, Lima led off with a single and Aranguren was hit by a pitch, setting up Sanchez' blast. The Bucs tacked on a run in the eighth inning on a run-scoring single by Aranguren.
Jon Adams (1-1) picked up the win for Barry with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Ray Rhoads pitched a perfect ninth. Cahoon allowed three runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Laker starter Nine allowed 12 hits in 5.2 innings, leading to eight runs (seven earned).
Every Buccaneer starter contributed two hits, except
Jesse Naber whose only hit was his second home run of the season. Sanchez drove in four runs, while Lima, Aranguren and Faraldo each had two.
The Bucs travel to Valdosta, Ga., this weekend for the Nijem Diamond Classic at Valdosta State.
