MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers tamed the Wilmington Wildcats 16-4 in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Sunday.
Wilmington (2-4) jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first inning when Pete Henyan drilled a pitch from Buccaneer starter
Alex Gonzalez over the fence in center field.
But the Bucs (12-5) responded with four runs in their half of the inning, with
Fausto Faraldo accounting for three of them with a bases-loaded double.
Barry tacked on three runs in the second inning, two on
Cesar Aranguren's first homer of the season, and scored two more in the third.
Nick Corbeil belted his second homer of the season in the fourth inning to make the score 10-2.
In the Wilmington fifth inning, Matt Kucharski and Rich Ware led off the frame with back-to-back singles. They worked a double steal to plate Kucharski, while Ware came home a sacrifice fly by Joe Class.
The Bucs got the runs back in the fifth inning when Aranguren and Faraldo hit back-to-back home runs.
In the seventh,
David San Juan stroked a two-run double, scoring
Alex Meneses and
Jesse Naber. Barry closed out the scoring in the eighth on RBI by
Eric Flynn and
Andrew Frezza.
Gonzalez (2-1) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks, striking out nine. Mike Davila and
Robert Medio combined on three innings of one-hit relief.
Scott Reynolds (0-2) took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits and four walks in three innings. He struck out one.
The Bucs conclude a five-game home stand on Monday, facing the Mercyhurst Lakers at 6:00 pm.
