Baseball Steam Rolls Flyers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers steam rolled the Lewis Flyers 7-1 at Feinbloom Field in baseball action Saturday night.

The Bucs (11-5) pounded out nine hits and took advantage of four Flyers errors to score seven runs. David San Juan smacked a single to right centerfield to plate Alex Meneses with the first run of the game. Meneses drove in two runs with a double in the third and the Bucs never looked back.

The Flyers (0-2) got their only run in the fourth inning off Barry starter Jayson Brown (2-1). Victor Naut walked to lead off the inning and came around on a single by Jim Gabriel. Brown walked the bases loaded behind Gabriel, but struck out Jon Guzzo to end the inning.

Meneses went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored to lead Barry at the plate. Cesar Aranguren added three hits, to extend his hitting streak to 23 games, and San Juan had two safeties.

Brown worked five innings, allowing just one run on three hits and four walks, striking out eight. Three relievers combined for three hitless innings to close out the win. Tom Rawski (0-1) took the loss for Lewis, giving up five runs (three earned) in 4.2 innings. He allowed six hits and walked five, while striking out four.

The Bucs host the Wilmington College Quakers on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
