MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University softball team (9-4, 5-1 SSC) capped off a Sunshine State Conference series sweep winning both end of a double-header over the Nova Southeastern Knights (5-5, 3-3 SSC) earlier today at Buccaneer Field. The Buccaneers won the first game 2-0 and the nightcap, 3-0.
In the first game,
Kim Fujimoto led the Bucs going three for three at the plate as the Bucs pounded out seven hits in the 2-0 win.
Delilah Stroup drove in one of Barry's runs on a sacrifice fly to left field, and the Bucs added another run on a costly Knight error in the third to cap off their scoring opportunities.
Ramie Garcia (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) improved to 3-1 hurling a two hit shutout and struck out one. Shannon Lynch (2-2) suffered the loss for the Knights striking out five in six innings, walking four and giving up two runs (one earned).
In the nightcap, the Bucs slated seven more hits in route to a 3-0 win over the Knights. Junior
Amanda Moore (St. Louis, Mo.) accounted for all three of Barry's runs. The first came on a sacrifice fly and the other two when she belted a two-run homer to become Barry's all-time career home run slugger with 20 round trippers. Elizabeth Bennett (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) picked up the win scattering five hits and striking out five to improve to 6-3. Laura Cepicky (3-3) suffered the loss for the Knights giving up three runs on seven hits and struck out five.
Fujimoto led the Bucs with three hits on the day, while Moore added a game-high three RBI.
Ashley Loose (So., Mill Creek, Wash.) added two hits for Barry. Diana Goolsby led the Knights scattering two hits in the two games.
The Buccaneers will be back in action next weekend at the South Region Crossover in Valdosta, Ga. hosted by Valdosta State. Barry will start off with the sixth-ranked Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Feb. 25 at 1 pm followed by a 3 pm game with host Valdosta State.
