MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2005 baseball season with a 12-1 win over St. Thomas at Feinbloom Field Tuesday night.
Ricky Sanchez belted a three-run homer, his first of the season, to highlight a seven-run third inning which propelled the Bucs (1-0) to the win.
Cesar Aranguren added a three-run triple in the frame.
Mike Tomoleoni (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter
Alex Gonzalez. Tomoleoni pitched one hitless inning, striking out two. Gonzalez tossed four innings, striking out seven, and allowing two hits and two walks. Luis Valenzuela (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats (1-3). He allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and four walks in two innings.
Aranguren had three hits to lead Barry at the plate, while Sanchez and
Fausto Faraldo each had two hits. Juan Mora, Chris Martinez and Alex Rodriguez each had one hit for the Bobcats who managed only one base runner after the fourth inning.
The Bucs are back in action on Friday, Feb. 4, hosting the Florida Tech Panthers in a non-Sunshine State Conference game.
