Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Sophomore midfielder,
Andres Lozano, posted the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute and five other players scored goals as the Barry University men's soccer team (1-0-0) cruised to a 6-0 win over the host Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (0-1-0) at Charger Field.
In the first half, both teams only managed three shot a piece. However,
Henry Apaloo found Lozano in the box who capitalized on the Bucs' third shot to give Barry a 1-0 lead at the half.
After the intermission, the Bucs when on a scoring frenzy. Inside the six,
Mahlon Sullivan received a cross from
Ricardo Raposo and headed the ball into the net for the Bucs' second goal at the 53:50 mark.
Less than 10 minutes later, Raposo was rewarded for his generosity scoring a goal off a pass from
Greg Anderson and
Mike Lupton off the left side of the field. One on one with Charger goalie Geoffery Merry,
Lee Yakubowich scored his first career-goal in the 76th minute to extend Barry's lead by four.
The Bucs' leading scorer in 2003,
Mike Lupton joined in on the action scoring his first goal of year at the 86:22 mark dribbling the ball past a fatigued Charger defense to give Barry a 5-0 lead. Newcomer,
Kiriakos Michailidis slammed the door on any Charger hopes late scoring his first goal as a Buccaneer and giving Barry the 6-0 win.
Chris Rich stopped four shots including two immaculate point blank saves. He picked up the win, while also registering his first career shutout.
Barry will return to action on Sunday at 12 noon facing on with Montevallo.
