Box Score TAMPA, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers opened the Sunshine State Conference play with a bang, knocking off the Tampa Spartans 67-34 in the Martinez Center on Saturday.

The Bucs (5-7, 1-0 SSC) eased out to an 11-8 lead in the first seven minutes, then exploded with an 11-3 run over the next six minutes. Karla Mast chipped in nine points during the run to set up the Bucs with a 22-11 lead. Barry extended the lead to 32-15 at the half.

In the second period, Barry cruised getting contributions from nearly every player. The Bucs gradually extended the lead to the final margin of 33 points.

Mast led the Bucs with 16 points and six steals, while Yojana Rodriguez added 12 points, 12 rebounds and blocked two shots. Yushonda Morse led all scorers with 20 points for Tampa (5-6, 0-1 SSC).

The Bucs return home on Tuesday, Jan. 6 to host the Lynn Knights in the Health & Sports Center at 5:30 pm.
