Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon defeating the Bobcats of St. Thomas University 5-0 in the final round of the Nike Invitational at Buccaneer Field.

Olga Vargas opened up scoring with her first goal of the season at the 11:01 mark and it was all Buccaneers the rest of the way as
Mairead McLaughlin,
Emelie Karlsson and
Ulla Matikainen each added first half goals to give the Bucs a 4-0 lead going into the break. The goals by McLaughlin and Matikainen were the first of their Barry careers.
In the second half, Buccaneer
Emelie Karlsson added her second goal of the game and third of the season on a mid-air deflection at the 59:45 mark to give the Bucs a 5-0 lead which would prove to be all they would need. Karlsson also added an assist, while McLaughlin added two. Also picking up assists for the Bucs were
Tammie Thornton,
Sarah Johnson and Lauren Rodriquez.
Johanna Fischer picked up the win in net despite having to make any saves as the Bucs out shot St. Thomas 38-0.
The Buccaneers return to action on Thursday at 5:00 pm when they open up conference play at Florida Southern College.
