Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry men's soccer team got back in the win column in the first round of the 2003 Nike Invitational at Buccaneer Field Friday night with a 3-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville.
In a game delayed several times by weather, the Bucs got goals from
Dan Levy,
Mike Lupton and
Fitzgerald Clarke to snap a two-game losing streak to start the season.
After a scoreless first half, Levy got the Bucs on top with a free kick goal at 53:58. After
Mike Lupton converted a penalty kick at 57:39, UAH's Steven Van Horne pulled the Chargers back to within one when he knocked in a header off a corner by Fernando Pingtore.
The game stayed close until the 86th minute, when Lupton started a break away and Clarke finished it off by burying the rebound when Charger keeper Nathan Daniel could no corral the wet ball.
Daneil made eight saves for Huntsville to keep the game close.
Ido Langer picked up his first career win, stopping three shots for the Bucs.
In the early game, Nova Southeastern and UC Davis tied 1-1 in double overtime.
The Invitational concludes on Sunday, Sept. 7 with two games. Due to weather and flight concerns the games have been moved up. The Nova Southeastern/Alabama-Huntsville game is now slated to start at 11:00 am, with the Barry/UC Davis match to follow at 1:00 pm.
