MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team swept the Augusta State Lady Jaguars Wednesday night winning the first game 1-0 in 10 innings and the nightcap 6-5.
In the series-opening marathon, the feisty Lady Jags (6-2) put up a fight and kept the game scoreless at the end of seven, sending the game into extra innings. Finally, in the 10th, when the tie-breaker rule was implemented,
Krista Latessa scored the go-ahead run to lift the Bucs to a 1-0 10-inning victory.
Geralyn Elam (9-0) fanned a career-high 20 batters and allowed only one hit en route to her ninth win of the season. Erin Cown (3-0) hurled a complete game and gave up two hits, walked three, and struck out four. The loss was charged against the team.
In the nightcap, the Lady Jaguars scored five unanswered runs in the third for an early 5-0 lead. But the relentless Bucs didn't give up, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning to narrow the gap 5-3. The Bucs scored another in the sixth to pull within one, but the opportunities were limited. In the seventh,

Amanda Moore came through in the crunch with a the game-winning two-run shot to left to finish the Bucs' 6-5 come-from-behind victory.
Moore led the Bucs (12-2) in the second game going three-for-three with a homer and three RBI, while White finished two-for-two, a double and two runs scored.
Erin Cormier (3-1) gave up five unearned runs and struck out four to earn the win for the Bucs. Jenni Brush (3-1), who suffered her first loss of the season, gave up six runs (two earned), walked four and struck out one.
The Buccaneers return to action on Feb. 28 hosting the Buccaneer Classic. Games are scheduled to start at 10 am with the Bucs facing UNC-Pembroke at 4 pm and Saint Leo in a non-conference match-up at 6 pm.
