Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.-The Barry Buccaneers fell 50-47 in overtime to the Valdosta State Blazers in the opening round of the Buccaneer Holiday Classic Monday at the Health & Sports Center.

The Bucs (4-6) led 41-39 with 7.3 seconds to play in regulation, but failed to inbound the ball. Valdosta State (10-0) capitalized on the turnover when Amber Daniels hit an offensive rebound basket to knot the game at 41-41.

In the overtime, Traci Newton hit a three-pointer with the Blazers trailing 44-43 to give them a 46-44 lead with 2:39 to play. Barry's Sanja Zivanovic answered with a three-pointer on the next possession, but after VSU's Candice Ferrell hit a layup with 32 second left the Blazers led 48-47. Nikki Collins missed a three pointer on the Bucs next trip down the court and Newton sealed the game with a pair of free throws.

Zivanovic lead all scorers with 17, while Ferrell paced the Blazers with 13. Daniels and Danielle Hernandez each added 11 for VSU.

In the tournament's first game, Armstrong Atlantic beat Nova Southeastern 80-64 behind 29 points from Tasha Washington.

The tournament continues tomorrow with VSU facing Nova at 4:00 pm and Barry playing Armstrong at 6:00 pm.
