Women's Basketball Wins Rematch With Eagles

Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University women's basketball team overpowered the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 69-60 early today at the Health & Sports Center.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle which saw five lead changes. The Bucs were up were up 24-23 with 6:19 to play and then closed out the half going on an impressive 10-3 run to take a 34-26 lead into the half.

The Bucs came out shooting in the second half as they extended their lead to 43-33 on a three-point basket off the fingertips of Eva Rojo at the 15:22 mark. Florida Gulf Coast attempted to claw their way back coming as close as 47-44 with 10:58 to play, however, the Bucs fended the Eagles off putting together a 7-0 run topped off by Rojo's second three-pointer of the half. The Eagles made one final attempt to steal the victory with 5:18 to play again coming to within 3 points at 54-51, however, the Bucs spoiled their comeback putting together their second 7-0 run putting the Eagles away for good. The Bucs then iced the victory with solid free-throw shooting late in the game by Karla Mast and Daphnee Allen to earn the 69-60 victory.

Buccaneer Karla Mast led all scorers with 18 points, while Sanja Zivanovic added 16.

Florida Gulf Coast was led by Noreen McCallum who scored 13 points.

The Bucs return to action Dec. 19 as they host Alabama-Huntsville in the first-round of the Barry Classic at the Health & Sports Center at 4:00 pm.
