Box Score BOCA RATON – The #2-seeded Barry University men's soccer team defeated the #6-seeded Florida Southern Moccasins 5-1 to advance to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament championship game.
The Buccaneers (15-3-3) jumped out on top early on in the first half when
Thiago Vasconcelos took a pass from the right side off the foot of
Mahlon Sullivan and drove home the goal to open up scoring. Then, at the 29:25 mark the Bucs added their second of the game when
Mike Lupton crossed the ball from the wing to a wide open Vasconcelos who found the back of the net for the second time sending the Bucs into the half up 2-0.
The Mocs then tried to stage a second-half comeback when Clay Roberts beat Bucs keeper Andrey Bustamante on a header right in front of the goal to bring Florida Southern to within 2-1, however, the Bucs quickly responded on a goal by
Ricardo Raposo who was fed up the middle by
Fitzgerald Clarke to regain the two goal lead. The Bucs then closed out the match with two insurance goals, the first coming off a penalty kick by
Jonathan Leite and the second coming of the foot of Ricky Kassis who fed from the leftwing by
Greg Anderson. The goal by Kassis was the first of his collegiate career.
The Bucs now face the #1-seeded Lynn University Knights in the championship game Sunday at 1:00 pm on the campus of Lynn University.
