Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OPA LOCKA, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2003-04 basketball season with a doubleheader sweep of the Florida Memorial Lions Wednesday night at the Robinson Center. Barry wom the women's game 58-51 and took the men's game 53-47.

The women played a 27-27 tie in the first half, but came out in the second period and quickly fell behind as the Lions scored six straight points to open the frame.

But despite going scoreless for 5:33, Barry tied the game at 35-35 at the 12:48 mark on a jumper by Yashica Nesbit. Barry then tightened the defensive screws, holding the lions scoreless for five minutes as they built a 40-35 advantage. Yojana Rodriguez came off the bench with four of her 12 points during the run.

With Rodriguez providing the scoring punch, the Bucs withstood the Lions' runs down the stretch for the win.

Nesbit led all scorers with 14 points to go along with Rodriguez for Barry (1-0). Lashnoda Armstrong led the Lions with 13 points, while Katrisha Stevens and Desiree Broadnax each had 12 for Florida Memorial (1-1).

In the men's game, it was a similar story. Barry led 22-20 at the half, but then poured on the juice in the second half to come away with the win. Trailing 25-24 with 19:30 left to play, the Bucs scored 13 of the nest 16 points to pull ahead 38-29 and they maintained a working margin the rest of the game.

The Lions trimmed the lead at the end as Barry hit just three of seven from the line in the final minute.

Nick Ellingsworth-Perez led all scorers with 15 points and Clifford Smith had 12 for Barry (1-0). Donnell Johnson andWillie Bailey each had 14 for the Lions (3-5).
