Box Score BOCA RATON – The #2-seeded Barry University men's soccer team fell to the #3 seeded Rollins College Tars 2-1 in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament at the McCusker Sportsplex.
In the first half neither team was able to get on the scoreboard despite strong offensive efforts on both sides.
However, the Tars (14-2-3) opened up the second half scoring back-to-back goals separated by just four minutes. The first goal came at the 57:45 mark when Chris Chafin headed home a corner kick from Juan Kusnir passed Bucs keeper
Chris Rich. Then in the 62nd minute Rollins Chris Cerrroni headed a free kick taken by Daniell Robertson past Rich to give the Tars a 2-0 cushion.
The Bucs got on the board just six minutes later at the 67:42 mark when
Ricardo Raposo drove home a cross from
Mahlon Sullivan to bring the Bucs to within a goal at 2-1.
The Bucs squandered a golden opportunity to tie the game with 10:37 to play when
Mike Lupton's penalty shot was stopped by Rollins keeper Justin Corrado. The Bucs kept the pressure on the rest of the way, but were unable to break through as the Tars held on for the 2-1 win to advance to play Lynn on Saturday in the round of 16.
Corrado picked up the win in goal for Rollins making 5 saves and Rich took the loss, stopping two shots. The Bucs out shot Rollins 21-9 for the match.
The Bucs finish the season at 15-5-3 overall and 6-1 in SSC play.
