Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry men's soccer team swamped St. Thomas' short-handed Bobcats 6-0 in drizzly conditions at Buccaneer Field Thursday night.
Alen Marcina had two goals, including the game-winner, and one assist to lead the Buccaneer attack.
Andres Lozano added a pair of goals off the bench. Chi Cho Soler and
Damian Bardoni each added one goal.
The Bobcats were short three players who received red-cards in the first game of the season.
"I was impressed with the full team effort and how the lads handled themselves," Barry coach
Steve McCrath said after the game. "They usually give us a tough game, and did tonight. But being shorthanded like they were, it was hard for them to sustain anything against us when we were playing so well."
Ron Goguen and Willie Leiste split the shutout in goal for the Bucs. Goguen played 68:24 and made one save, while Leiste finished out the game and also made one save. Stopper
Greg Jehs aided the defensive effort by stopping two shots inside the six-yard box. Jorgen Gunnarsson made four saves, but allowed all six Barry goals.
The win was the largest margin of victory in the series, topping a 4-0 win by Barry on Sept. 3, 1997.
The Buccaneers and Bobcats have a re-match scheduled for 7:00 pm on Monday, Sept. 9.
