Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OPA LOCKA, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers split a basketball double-header with the Florida Memorial Lions at the Robinson Athletic Center Saturday night, losing the women's game 67-64 in overtime, but bouncing back to win the men's game 53-41.

In the men's game, Barry's stifling defense was again the key as the Bucs held the Lions to 33.3 percent shooting and 41 points. The Bucs built a big lead in the first half, thanks to a scoreless spell from the Lions from the 15:56 mark to the 8:53 mark.

Luis Vazquez-Bello and Nick Ellingsworth Perez each chipped in 13 points to lead Barry (7-0), with Ellingsworth-Perez adding 12 rebounds. Randy Guzman led FMA (3-12) with nine points as no Lion reached double figures.

The win extends Barry's season-opening winning streak to seven game, matching the longest such streak in school history set in 2000-01.

In the women's game, the Bucs could not find the same magic that propelled them to victory last night against Nova Southeastern. Despite the leading 50-44 with 2:57 to play after a bucket from Candace Blackbird, the Bucs could not hold the lead as the Lions roared back to tie the game in regulation.

In the overtime period, the Lions hit five-of-nine from the field, while Barry hit just three-of-seven to seal the win.

Amra Alagic and Candace Blackbird each scored 13 points to lead the Buccaneers (4-6). Sanja Zivanovic added 11 and Yashica Nesbit had 10. Katrischa Stevens and Allison Worsham each paced the Lions (5-5) with 15 points. Nicolene Johnson added 14 and Makeisha Butts and Erica Johnson had 11 each.

The Buccaneer men travel to Boca Raton, Fla., December 19-21 to play in the Palm Beach Hoop Classic, taking on Puerto Rico-Cayey on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 5:00 pm. The Barry women are off for holiday break until December 29-30 when they host the Comfort Inn "On The Beach" Holiday Classic.
