Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers defeated the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 3-1 in men's soccer at Buccaneer Field Friday night.
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 37:56 mark.
Joey Burg drove the ball into the box where it deflected off a defender to
Emilio Martinez who buried his first collegiate goal to give Barry the early lead.
The Bears came back to knot the game at 1-1 at the 41:00 mark. The Bucs played the ball back and Joshua Hudgins out-raced the Barry defense to reach the ball first. His chip from 30 yards caught Buc keeper
Ron Goguen off his line and the game was tied going into the half.
In the second half, the Bucs reasserted themselves by scoring twice for the win.
Kevin Lamy also scored his first career goal with an assist from Burg at the 57:24 mark.
Mike Lupton added an insurance goal at 81:12.
James Ryan threw the ball in to Lamy who found Lupton in the box for the score.
Willie Leiste made one save in the second half in relief of Goguen to earn his second win of the season. Tom Skora made four saves for Lenoir-Rhyne, but gave up three goals.
The Buccaneers, ranked second in NCAA Division II, improved to 6-0-0. The Bears dropped to 1-4-0. Barry is back in action on Friday, Sept. 21 against Christian Brothers at 5:00 pm.
