Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.--While nothing has come easy for the Barry University men's soccer team, the Buccaneers improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating the West Florida Argonauts 3-2 at the UWF Soccer Complex Friday night.
The win was the Bucs' third this season in which they were behind or tied after 70 minutes.
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute on a goal by
Mike Lupton, assisted by
Alen Marcina. But the Argonauts stormed back to go up 2-1, with goals from Tommy Robinson and Matt Estrem.
Trailing 2-1 with 21 minutes left, Marcina's run into the box carried him past Argonaut keeper Nic Stankov who was forced to tackle him from behind. The foul set Marcina up with a penalty kick opportunity, which he converted and put Barry up a man for the rest of the game as Stankov was sent off.
James Ryan netted the game-winner just two minutes later off an assist from
Greg Jehs.
Ron Goguen made seven saves for the Bucs, to pick up his second win of the season. Stankov had five saves and Brian Mariea had three in his relief.
Barry (3-0) on the season will face off against Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday. The Chargers tied Florida Tech 1-1 in Friday's first game.
