Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla.--The Barry University women's soccer team capped off another perfect Sunshine State Conference season with a 6-1 whipping of the Saint Leo Lions at University Field Sunday afternoon.
Despite giving up the first goal ever to the Lions, the Buccaneers responded with a six-goal onslaught to take the game and conference crown.
Seniors
Erika O'Brien and
Ashley Snell teamed up to give Barry an early lead, just 7:00 into the contest. Snell swiped the ball from a Lion defender and fed O'Brien for the goal.
The Lions evened the game at the 13:22 mark on a penalty kick by Kate McKenna.
The tie did not last long, however, as
Tammie Thornton scored her 11th goal of the season a the 19:17 mark off a free kick by
Colleen Gramlich.
Gramlich placed another free kick on the head of Pam McDonald at the 36:35 mark and McDonald flicked it into the SLU goal past a diving Amber Ferrol.
Charlene Hillebrand closed out the first half with a penalty kick of her own and the Bucs led 4-1 at the intermission.
In the second half, McDonald and Hillebrand each added another goal to bring the final count to 6-1.
Britt Miazgowicz and Snell recorded the assists.
Johanna Fischer saw her consecutive minutes scoreless streak snapped by the SLU penalty kick at 426 minutes, but picked up her 12th win of the season making one save.
Amy Gibson, who hasn't allowed a goal all season, made on save in the second half.
Ferrol had nine saves for the Lions.
Barry improves to 14-3-0, 6-0-0 in the SSC, their third straight undefeated season in the conference and 22nd straight SSC win. Saint Leo falls to 4-12-0, 0-5-0 in the league.
